ROYAL INSTITUTE OF BRITISH ARCHITECTS NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2008, HILTON PARK LANE, JUNE 2008. In January 2008 Absolute Events were asked to carry out the entire technical production for the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects National and International Awards. The awards took place in June at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London and were presented by comedienne Jenny Éclair. With 800 high-profile guests attending, all from within the architecture industry, the team at Absolute Events had an audience with a critical eye for creative detail. Absolute Events not only carried out the widescreen projection, lighting design, sound, and staging, but were also tasked with both the design and build of the set and the presentation. Absolute Events also worked in close collaboration with a group of recently graduated architects and Kite Related Design. They had designed a 24 metre long art installation which we had to suspend safely from the ceiling above the guests’ heads and we then lit the structure in line with their design. One of the greatest challenges was to create a sophisticated presentation and set design fitting for top level international architects, many of whom had attended the annual RIBA event in previous years at the same venue. This encompasses set visualisation initial design concepts; bespoke set design; concept sketches and fully realised artwork of the final design; working drawings of the final design; Keynote slide background; animated transitions and integration of videos. The Awards ceremony in June 2008 was a resounding success, resulting in a very pleased client and Absolute Events had more than fulfilled their mission.
